QI GONG

MY QIGONG DISCOVERY

I’m not an expert in Qigong but from what I have learnt and experienced thus far, has shown  transformational results in terms of my mental health. Briefly… I battled eating disorders, mainly anorexia nervosa, for 25 years, with several hospital admissions . This affected my entire life from my career, health and relationships. At the age of 40, I relapsed into anorexia, my mind was negative and was always “in my head”…. so the future wasn’t  looking promising.

After practising Qigong on youtube, I noticed how my mind had become a lot quieter and my body was much improved too. I’m only a few months in to the practice and was so excited to document my journey, in the hope of helping you begin your own healing journey towards emotional or physical relief!

PRINCIPLES OF QIGONG

QIGONG IS….

Qigong can be described as a mind-body-spirit practice that improves one’s mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and focused intent. There are likely thousands of qigong styles, schools, traditions, forms, and lineages, each with practical applications and different theories about Qi (“subtle breath” or “vital energy”) and Gong (“skill cultivated through steady practice”). The mission of the National Qigong Association is to help each individual find a path that best supports their personal goals, and to evolve this amazing energetic science. ~ source~ national Qigong association

HOW MY BUSINESS & HEALTH FLOURISHED

I had already been practising yoga before  I came across qigong on youtube. I have two littles ones and had hurt my back from bending over the small table and over my computer, so I began doing some yoga for lower back pain. It worked in the beginning but I wasn’t significantly better! I then linked the stomach issues id been having alongside this and  realised that maybe, the pain was actually my mind, showing itself in physical pain.!

The past few weeks i’ve linked this all together and began practising qigong, alongside yoga & the meditation I was already doing & the results really impressed me. As a digital entrepreneur in the early stages of building a business, homeschooling, plus recovery from anorexia, You could say I have a lot going on. The stress was mounting up and being in lockdown had highlighted the areas of my life ,that needed my attention.

I found that my tolerance for stress was extremely low… in other words, my ability to regulate negative emotions was little to none. I don’t know if you feel the same! The kids seemed to stress me out, lost focus in my business… and had that constant inner chatter telling me that I wasn’t “good enough”. This accumulation of low tolerance began to show itself in the physical form, with back pain, extended gut & bloating, eczema, rosacea, poor sleep & eating habits.

Something had to change and that change wasn’t qigong alone… it was my decision to find a better way to “cope”, and to do that, I had to completely alter the way I was living. This was an overhaul of my diet, thinking, mindset, activities & external influences. It seems a lot to do but with the motivation i’d gained from discovering entrepreneurship & the tools and resources that were introduced, I was excited and motivated to keep “feeling better”. Gone were the days of watching “real housewives” ( still love them by the way, especially beverly hills!) and in came all the practices of yoga, meditation, qigong, mindfulness & a healthier diet… the results have been incredible.

I can recognise when im getting sucked in to the inner , negative chatter, when im reacting to, instead of managing myself, for my children and when i feel moody, because I missed eating enough. It’s all linked…. what I was “consuming” internally and externally was showing itself in my mind and body. The question is, will I continue on this new path and achieve my dreams, goals and aspirations….. I KNOW I WILL!!

I will be practising all of these techniques with emphasis on qigong, as I have experienced dramatic improvements and blog my findings. Am confident that my improvement will continue and I will be completely addiction free for the future. Hope you have a go too… namaste ( Namaste is the common greeting in yoga. It is a gesture to send a message of peaceful spirituality to the universe in the hopes of receiving a positive message back)
